April had a few disappointments, but also some good news for my artwork.
My submission to the New English Art Club Open exhibition was first selected for viewing but subsequently rejected in the second round of selection for hanging. I have got to this stage before, it was no real surprise, but I do hope it will happen next year if I submit again. The other point of focus was my display of artwork at the Reading Art Fair which took a lot of organising, effort transporting and hanging the work and two days of trying to entice visitors to buy a piece of artwork. The result was just a few card sales and lots & lots of compliments about the work, but no hard cash!
Despite this setback, I did get one good response that might lead to a commission on a fairly big scale. There is the prospect of doing 3 fairly large paintings of some spectacular views across the Thames fairly near Reading for a client who has a large overlooking wall that needs some artwork. I will be progressing this venture during May and see what transpires.
The other very good landmark that has been achieved, is that the Tinca Gallery in Portishead ( Near Bristol ) has accepted about a dozen paintings for display and adopted me as a gallery artist. I do hope that we both get some sales in the next few months and that this will turn out to be a great partnership between the two of us and will be a source of selling work well into the future.
I am currently working on three interpretations (60 x 60 on board) of paint sketches I did at Lamorna Cove in Cornwall last year. These have been in the studio for months and have been nagging me to develop them into proper paintings, so I am trying to capture the thoughts and experience I had at that time into these larger works. ( the last one is still in progress )
Many more things on the horizon now – The Childwickbury Art Fair ( first w/e July ) the St Albans Art Exhibtion ( last w/e July ) a ceramics course in Devon in June, another visit to the Newlyn School of art last week in August and my Espacio show in second week September – and a couple of short holidays to fit in. Wow there’s a lot to think about so I better start doing some high speed painting!!!!!
