After much deliberation over the Christmas period about submitting works for the Royal Watercolour Society open exhibition and the Royal Institute of Watercolour open show, both to be submitted in January, I decided to go for it!

I had some of my plein air sketches that I did during my stay in the Lakes for the R.I. show, and some other small paintings on paper also from that trip that would be more suitable for the RWS exhibtion. I have not had any success before with either of these shows, so I wasn’t holding my breath and sure enough none were chosen this time either. It can be very disheartening when this happens, but I now have learnt to say a lot of what is chosen for these shows depends on the eye of the judges and they may not easily see the world the way that I see it. So I keep trying – there is always next year!
