January has been a month of setting goals and getting back into a regular painting regime. I have felt that concentrating on views of Borrowdale during most of last year has become a little repetitive, so I have looked at local views to see if the winter colours and the subtle tones in woodland have something to interpretate.
I feel a new confidence to use drawing elements in the paintings now, these continue to be the charcoal drawing that is the underplay to all my work, but also now some scraffito into the paint to lend description to other forms and marks. I think the success of this technique is to not over do the use of this ‘drawing’ so that it adds and not interferes with the image.
See what you think of a couple of paintings that have been finished in last few weeks? Comment please if you can.
I see from your gallery that you have been producing more abstract work.
I like the boldness of it and your generous sweeps of the brush.
I also think that you have a very appealing sense of colour and balance.
Keep up the good work!
