- The meadows in late summer bring a display of wild flowers mingled with patches of grasses, each trying to reach the sun by growing upwards. In the painting the bright dashes of paint indicate the blooms of wild flowers whilst the patches of blue grey in the foreground are clumps of seeding flower heads standing out above the other plants.
In the top part of the painting a border of trees glows in the sun, casting deep shadows beneath. There is a vibrant mix of paint in textured patches applied to the surface of the painting, some blending with lower darker layers and others standing on top, allowing the lighter texture details to stand out.
