The River Divides
Water flows from one side of the painting to the other, but there is another avenue for it to flow, pointing towards the top of the picture.

- Rivers always seek to run to the lowest point of their journey. In this painting the river runs across the bottom of the painting indicated by the light blue line, but there is another path emerging to the area towards the top.
Loose painted brush strokes create a patchwork of textures denoting three separate areas around the river which reflects surface light. A large tree leans as if it is taking water to help it display a rich canopy of green leaves against the vibrant blue sky.
