Despite a disappointment with my submissions for the Cork Street Open, I am willing to have a go at the Discerning Eye Exhibition sponsored by ING Insurance which will display in the Mall galleries during November. The brief is a good because it will give me an opportunity to produce some smaller work as the paintings can be no more than 20″ in any dimension, including the frame. To fit this requirement I have chosen to work on heavy grade of Khardi handmade paper with torn edges and then mount them on a foamboard backing within a simple frame. I recently had the good fortune to purchase a small oil by my favourite artist – Barbara Macfarlane which she has mounted in the same way, and thought that my work would also look good in this format. I submitted 4 paintings which I thought might stand a chance, but sadly again these were rejected. My only consolation is that as it was a national submission scheme there must have been loads of landscapes to choose from and it is not surprising that the judges thought that mine wern’t that special ( although they were to me!!).
See what you think again with these new paintings –
