November started with a very rewarding painting holiday in the Lake District with Jenny Wheatley and Mike Chaplin as tutors. Although this would normally be at the very end of Autumn the colours of the landscape were still vibrant this year and were the inspiration for several new works. I have many more photos and sketches to work from next year and hopefully they will be the source of my new work for many months to come.

After the calm of this retreat, I had to focus on preparing work for our end of year Exhibition at the Insight School of Art. Soon the last week end of the month was upon us and my group of 17 artists, with whom I have worked all this year were ready to show the art world our endeavours and prove that we have all become established artists. I submitted 16 paintings which were to my eyes arranged in a tasteful group showing the breadth of style and content of my current work. I am pleased to announce that at least 3 visitors appreciated them enough to purchase, and many more passed on encouraging comments saying how much they admired the effort. For me it was good to see a body of my work hung in such a way that I could contemplate the progression of ideas and techniques that I have mastered throughout the year and define a direction that the ongoing work will take next year.

Here are some photos of the exhibition and the arrangement of my display with some of the highlights of the week end. An estimated 700 visitors through the door and many thousands of pounds in sales –  not bad for a small out of town commercial premises turned into a gallery and a bunch of enthusiastic artists!!
