December already! Christmas coming soon and the first year of working with my study group finished with our exhibition last month. A real success to crown all the work done this year and I feel that there is still plenty to go and develop for next year. Went to an exhibition at the Dulwich Picture Gallery today ( Friday 9 December) called ‘Painting Canada’ which was a real eye opener to me as firstly I didn’t know an influential group existed that extolled the wilds of Canadian landscape, and secondly that during the period of 1915 to the early 30’s there was a movement so similar to the Glasgow school on the other side of the Atlantic. I was very moved by the painting sketches of leading light Tom Tomson and how he and others translated their small perfectly painted small scenes that were done en plein air into larger managed pictures that showed to a better effect their individual techniques and wonderful captured colour palettes. I bought the catalogue which I am sure will provide some more inspiration for my next work.
There might be some painting from a few photos I have collected which are relevant to family and friends over the Christmas period if I have time but I will be using the down time mainly for reflecting over the past year and working out a few objectives for the new.
To all readers and followers – can I wish you all an enjoyable Christmas and a rewarding New Year.
