July has been a bit of a waiting game – my on line entries are in for the Cork Street Open and I won’t know how I have done until mid August. Our Insight@17 exhibition at the Tudor galley was a bit of a flop for all entrants – sales were virtually non existent and the range of work we were able to show was very limited. I have moved some of the small painting sketches to the Art@ 88 Gallery in Berkhamsted  and hope that they can sell some of them. On a brighter note I have sold ‘Hidden Path’ to a previous customer of mine and I am so glad that she wants another painting of mine.

Summer is always a good time to get out and do some sketching. My Insight@17 group had great day out at Borough Market near London Bridge and we all sat around the place drawing everybody and everything we saw, and tried to capture the architecture and the hustle and bustle of the traders and customers. As you can see I seemed to be enjoying it and managed to produce loads of sketches as a visual memory of the day.

As you will see in the ‘New Work’ page of the website – I have done some studies of clouds and their dramatic formations in the summer skies. I am constantly reminded that Constable was the master of these studies and although I am taking a slightly different approach from his observations, I feel the essence and the passion he felt when observing these spectacles is the same as moves me to interpret them in my paintings. I am attempting to convey the ‘energy’ and the play of light that these vast objects convey on the landscape. Temporarily blocking sunlight to some areas and then suddenly releasing the the brilliance of light to others.
