If anyone follows this blog regularly ( and I hope there a few ), you will have noticed that there has been an absence of text during April & May. My apologies, but several things have kept me from this task and I am glad to re-appear again for June to continue the dialogue.
On a personal level, one major landmark has occurred for me as I have reached the grand age of 70!!! Birthdays, especially the ‘big ones’ are timely reminders of how the very things in life such as painting are so important, and have a finite limit which gets ever closer as the years go by. I better get a move on and develop and create as much work as I can before the inspiration runs out.
The show at the Camden Image went well and I was pleased to be able to show a small number of paintings in a very good up and coming gallery; I think it will go places soon and start to get a good reputation.
There is some good news about a new gallery nearer to home in St Albans. This has the rather curious name of the NudeTinCan Gallery!! The owner Samantha de Barnard is a very enthusiastic and discerning entrepreneur and wishes to set a high standard of contemporary work in the gallery and is keen to get new work and assistance from good local artists as well as work from well established artists by invitation. I will be showing a small selection of work there as part of an invited group show starting June 16 for a week titled ‘Horizon’.
My work is still progressing with images from the Suffolk coast and there is a shift towards more abstracted representations in some of them. I think the mixture of more easily identifiable images in some and the more challenging compositions of others, will I hope (if ever they are shown together), make an interesting reflection of that eastern landscape. My next task is to find suitable galleries that might want to have a number of them to make a small show.
Here are some paintings destined for the ‘Horizon’ show
