The busy season is nearly over now and I am looking forward to putting some ideas collected over the summer into new paintings. I have collected a lot of images and enjoyed the stimulus of seeing great locations from various visits and holidays in Greece and Cornwall. This has all had to be put on hold whilst I have had to deal with the logistics of holding Open Studios and my Espacio show in London as well as dealing with the challenges to produce work for my new local gallery here in St Albans.
Firstly, I will start with a short report about the Space & Place gallery show that I curated with Anthea in the Espacio gallery – London. I am so glad to say that it was a beautifully displayed event with all the artists ( 12 in total) all bringing excellent examples of their work which madding it a joy to put together. I was able to find complimenting pieces, large and small, together with photographs and prints that all went to make a varied and interesting arrangement all through the gallery. We had so many compliments from visitors who said it was one of the best shows they had seen at the gallery! Unfortunately, I noticed that there very few sales of pictures which was a pity, as I wanted the artists to enjoy some sales as well as showing their work.
Running at the same time was my Open Studios work at the Nude Tin Can gallery in St Albans, so you can image that keeping these two events ‘on the move’ throughout the month was challenging. Now the month has nearly ended I have to present more work for a gallery artists’ show in the second week in October in the same gallery. Whatever happened to painting in my studio!!
One final note – I have as usual submitted 3 paintings to the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in the Mall Galleries and much to my delight have had 3 pre-selected. I am due to take them to be viewed soon and hope that at least one will make it through to the showing in November.
